The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain Fellowship is a development programme for emerging young professional choral leaders. This group is the 2019-20 cohort.
Their programme is a wonderful celebration of British composers ‘old and new’. The first half spans the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, starting with John Taverner (1490-1545) and ending with William Henry Harris (1883-1973). In the second half, they introduce contemporary works including Judith Weir’s Vertue, a lovely setting of three George Herbert poems, as well as pieces written for them by individuals from the NYCGB Young Composers programme. And to close with a happy ending, Ben Parry’s By the Way I Love You.
