Commotio – Music for Lent and Easter

Sat 9 March 19:30 - 21:30
Matthew Berry returns to conduct Commotio in a concert of choral rarities, including the UK premiere of Slovenian composer Uroš Krek’s Salmo XLII and the second UK performance of Bern Herbolsheimer’s extremely fine Seven Last Words. Krek’s work was one of the first concert pieces to be written in Latin in his homeland post-Slovenian independence.

Also featured will be three rarely heard works for double choir by British composers Tustin Baker, William Harris, and Hubert Middleton whose Let my prayer be set forth has one choir in canon with the other. The choir will also perform some old favourites including Ginastera’s Lamentations of Jeremiah, Knut Nystedt’s O crux, Svein Møller’s Ave verum, and Frank Ferko’s Motet for Passion Sunday.
