The highly-acclaimed London Firebird Orchestra returns to SJE Arts for an eagerly-awaited fourth performance, featuring Beethoven’s monumentally popular Symphony no. 5 and Mozart’s thrilling Overture to the Magic Flute. The orchestra is joined by the multi-award-winning International violin star Yury Revich, who travels to Oxford from Vienna, as soloist in Bruch’s emotionally-stirring Violin Concerto no.1. The Bruch was famously described by Josef Joachim as the ‘most seductive’ of all the great German violin concertos. Full orchestral concerts at SJE Arts are always an exciting occasion – this one, with a renowned orchestra and star soloist, is not to be missed.
London Firebird Orchestra was founded in 2012 with Dame Judi Dench as Patron and Marc Corbett-Weaver as Artistic Director. The orchestra supports talented musicians of the younger generation who have recently graduated or are still studying at one of the major London conservatoires, by enabling them to perform in orchestral concerts and outreach projects. The orchestra appears regularly at its main home venue St George’s Hanover Square, with occasional concerts at King’s Place and SJE Arts Oxford; it also has a residency at Middlesex University.
Austrian violinist and composer Yury Revich is a multi-award winner. At 18, Yury debuted in Carnegie Hall alongside Daniil Trifonov and he later debuted with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. In 2021 his recording of Saint-Georges double concertos was listed in the US TOP 100 Billboard classical chart and in 2023 his album of music by Chevalier St. Georges was included in the official soundtrack of the Netflix series, Bridgerton.
‘Full-blooded authority, fleet-fingered dexterity, innate musicality, and substantial accuracy…’ The Strad.
