Intermezzo Chamber Choir Summer Concert
Oxford’s vacation chamber choir presents ‘In the silence of the night’.
The programme will include works relating to night and silence including a dramatic opening by Augustinas (text from Psalm 139: yea the darkness hideth not…), the atmospheric Dum medium silentium by fellow Lithuanian Miškinis, music set in the night-time by Latvians Ēriks Ešenvalds and Laura Jēkabsone, and a lovely song about wishing on a falling star by Swedish composer Emil Sundberg.
Away from Scandinavia and the Baltic states, there are two pieces by Eric Whitacre including a complete reimagining of Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence, haunting arrangements of an old English folk song by Kerry Andrew and a modern one by Jim Clements, a classic version of All Through the Night, South African Peter Klatzow’s Night Silence, and a new arrangement, also from South Africa, to test the choir’s mettle!
