Since winning Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018, Eric Lu’s career has followed a steep upward trajectory. Last season’s highlights included performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Hollywood Bowl and with Shanghai Orchestra at the BBC Proms. This season sees his debuts with the London Symphony and Boston Symphony Orchestras and recitals at Cologne Philharmonie, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Seoul Arts Center and Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall, London.

Born in Massachusetts, Eric Lu first came to international attention as a Laureate of the 2015 Chopin International Competition in Warsaw, aged just 17. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and has been mentored by Mitsuko Uchida and Imogen Cooper. When he appeared in the SJE Arts International Piano Series early in 2020, he played Brahms, Schubert and Chopin, closing with Chopin’s 24 Preludes. It was a wonderful performance. The programme for this concert is similarly lyrical and we look forward to hearing him again.

‘Leeds winner has grace wisdom and poetry – Lu seems already to possess something of the magic touch of early laureates Murray Perahia and Radu Lupu, and is surely one of the most exciting prospects in a long time. A veritable poet of the keyboard.’ The Guardian
